WordWheelsWrites – Welcome

Welcome!  What a simple word. Very apt and poignant, I think.

I haven’t written for a while, sort of ‘in between’ projects after completing the novel. It’s in draft form, being read by friends and family acting as my ‘beta readers.’

I decided on a title: Unteachable- some lessons in life cannot be taught. That title seemed to fit the themes running through the book, but there’s a catch— that title was used by another author in 2014 for a romance novel. So, the final title of my book is still unclear. Doesn’t matter. The content will not change.

For those of you first time to my website, my book is about a teacher, Daniel Cohen, in an outback town called Winburn, who is wrongly accused of child sexual assault. Instead of staying put and challenging the charges, which eventually are dropped, he goes on the run. So that I don’t give any spoiler alerts, the story is about the different people he meets, about love, sex and friendship. I know a few of you will be thinking: Oh, he’s just jumping on the sex-aspect, visual shock-intrigue bandwagon. I get that. That’s why the “sex” scenes in the book are few, very briefly described and minor to the more important plot and how the characters deal with that aspect of their relationships.

Because the book is about relationships—how they define us as people. (the book is also about truth, culture and nationality, and how love is a common thread linking us all. The book is also about history, especially German history around the Holocaust. It is not told from a Jewish perspective, (because I’m not Jewish), but the two main characters have Jewish backgrounds. The story is told from a humanity perspective, where each character has to firstly understand the past before moving forward to the future. What happens in their daily lives, over an eight-year period is the present, the content of the book.

The other issue I faced in writing the book is the blending of fact and fiction. Parts of the story actually happened. Most of it is fiction. So, I may add inside the cover a proviso: Partially based on true events. This is not a promotional gimmick, but a disclaimer, as, some of the minor characters are still alive today. (I have changed all the names so not to offend anyone.) Most stories come from direct experience, it’s just how writers weave them into a story that gives them a separate life.

The other issue I’m facing is publishing. What route to take? Initially I’ll be reaching out to an agent to see if any major publisher will pick it up. If not, be patient and I’ll self-publish it. If you’d like to pre-order a copy, you can e-mail your request to :wooborachris@yahoo.com.au.

Thanks for reading! From WordWheels.
